Al Sigl Community of Agencies, AutismUp and CP Rochester announced today that they are collaborating to build the new Golisano Autism Center Rochester, which will expand and enhance autism services to serve the more than 10,000 people diagnosed with autism in the Greater Rochester and surrounding areas.

 

Ability Partners, Inc. Named Finalist in 2017 Collaboration Prize

Ability Partners, Inc. was named a Finalist for the 2017 Collaboration Prize and will be awarded $10,000. This is a national award designed to highlight exceptional permanent models of collaboration among nonprofit organizations. Ability Partners, Inc., was initially chosen to be one of 18 semifinalists from more than 350 submissions, and in February was selected as one of eight finalists for the Prize by a selection panel comprising major supporters of nonprofit collaboration.

Ability Partners Foundation’s third annual Evening of Stars Galafundraiser exceeded its goal by raising over $70,000! The Gala, presented by The Lilliputian Foundation, was held at the Memorial Art Gallery in Rochester. It recognized companies and individuals who help CP Rochester and Rochester Rehabilitation thrive. “The support we’ve received for this event from so many individuals and companies is overwhelming,” said President and CEO Mary Walsh Boatfield. “Their dedication to our mission helped ensure this Gala was tremendously successful.”

30-year Employee Reflects on his Life at Rochester Rehab

John Hahn is an employee of Rochester Rehabilitation’s OneSource Solutions Janitorial Services division. For the past 30 years, he has been working at the Federal Building in Rochester as part of the long-term contract it has with Rochester Rehab – cleaning bathrooms, vacuuming offices, and emptying garbage cans.

The celebration, taking place at Happiness House’s Geneva location at 731 Pre-Emption Road at 1:30 p.m., will honor Senator Nozzolio’s generosity and years of unwavering work and dedication on behalf of adults and children with disabilities. The event is free and open to the public.

Happiness House Golf Tournament Raises over $45,000

The Francis ‘Ben’ Bonafiglia – Happiness House Golf Tournament, hosted at Seneca Falls Country Club on August 3, raised over $45,000 in support of adults and children with disabilities. Celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, the tournament has raised $820,000 since its inaugural event in 1986.

Rochester Rehabilitation Receives $4 Million Grant

Rochester Rehabilitation was recently awarded a $4 million grant from the Federal Department of Labor enablingthe agency to partner with other organizations and area employers to create access to living-wage jobs, and support career advancement in in-demand industries for parents with dependent children at home. Job training, job placement, career advancement, benefits management, and child support will be available.

CP Rochester Receives $240,000 Grant from The Golisano Foundation
June 9, 2016
CP Rochester, a partner within the Al Sigl Community of Agencies, received a grant from The Golisano Foundation to assist the agency develop ‘transitional apartments’ for young adults with disabilities. As part of the grant award, $40,000 was gifted in October 2014 with an additional $200,000 to be awarded when additional funding is secured via the Al Sigl Community of Agencies capital campaign, a Federal Home Loan, and other grants and sources.

Legislative Breakfast Focuses on Autism

CP Rochester and the Al Sigl Community of Agencies recently hosted an Autism Summit/Legislative Breakfast at Nazareth College. Over 125 people attended the free discussion to learn more about issues affecting people with autism (and their families) including behavioral health, mental health, transportation, employment, and housing.

Rochester Rehabilitation Joins Ability Partners, Inc.
April 4, 2016
One year after the executive staffing agreement took effect, Rochester Rehabilitation has officially become an affiliate agency of Ability Partners, Inc. Incorporated in December 2014; Ability Partners, Inc. is the passive parent corporation which includes CP Rochester in Monroe County and Happiness House in Ontario County.
With the inclusion of Rochester Rehabilitation, Ability Partners, Inc. now grows to three partner agencies, each operating as separate subsidiaries. Combined, the agencies employ over 700 clinical, professional, paraprofessional, and administrative individuals who live in the areas where they serve. Mirrored board of directors members from all three agencies comprise the leadership and provide oversight to achieve common goals.


Rochester Rehabilitation Hosting Employment Conference

Rochester Rehabilitation is hosting a first-of-its-kind employment conference in Western New York on Thursday, April 28, 2016 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sponsored by Wegmans, Employment First will focus on employment outcomes for special populations, including individuals with a disadvantage, those in poverty, people with disabilities, refugees, and veterans. The keynote speaker will be Robert Egger, a nationally-known non-profit leader, author, speaker, and activist.

Bowling Event Raises Money for People with Disabilities

Happiness House and CP Rochester held the 7th Annual Bowling to Raise Bucks fundraising tournament at Roseland Bowl in Canandaigua on November 6. Over 215 bowlers on sixty teams, several sponsors, and friends helped raise approximately $20,000.

Rochester Rookies Win Multiple Medals at Competition

Less than two years since an executive staffing agreement took effect, Happiness House/Finger Lakes United Cerebral Palsy, Inc. and CP Rochester/United Cerebral Palsy Association of the Rochester Area, Inc. have met and formed a ‘passive parent’ corporation. Ability Partners, Inc., which incorporated in December 2014, is the culmination of months of strategic planning by members of both agencies’ Boards of Directors.

M&T Charitable Foundation Gifts $2,000 to CP Rochester
November 7, 2014
The M&T Charitable Foundation recently gifted CP Rochester’s Augustin Children’s Center $2,000 to fund a portable climber used by children with and without disabilities to develop upper body strength and coordination. The climber can be used in classrooms, the gym, or outdoors – this provides staff great flexibility in where and with whom it can be used. The remaining grant funds are being applied to the purchase of a contoured advance seat. This support system has a smaller footprint than a standard wheelchair, provides the child with optimal positioning and can be raised and lowered. This allows the child to get closer to the floor for activities such as circle time and floor play and rises to table height or standing so that the child can participate in all classroom activities at the same level as their peers.

CP Rochester’s Family Dental Center, one of the few dental offices in the region specializing in the oral care of individuals with disabilities, has been awarded the prestigious 2014 Health Care Achievement Award from the Rochester Business Journal. The Family Dental Center was recognized for its excellence and innovation, as well as for making a significant impact on the quality of health care in Rochester.
