Job Purpose:

As part of our team you will have the personal rewards of making a difference in the lives of adults and children with developmental disabilities and their families.
In a Recreation Specialist / Lifeguard position you will create a safe, supportive and positive environment for the participants in the SportsNet and Recreation programs. Provide swimming instruction in a group or individual setting and work collaboratively with staff at recreational venues.
Hours of Employment:

Lifeguard and instruction staff for new programing:

  1. Mon 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
  2. Wed Possible Mornings
  3. Thu 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Hours may vary depending on need and evenings are flexible by day and hour.
Key Job Skills:
  • Imparts agency philosophy of “Respect, Integrity, Service and Excellence” to individuals, families, program staff and community resources.
  • Maintains confidentiality of information relating to individuals and their families in accordance with agency policy.
  • The qualified candidate will implement community-based recreation programs, primarily in Monroe County.
  • Knowledge and ability to provide swimming instruction in a group or individual setting.
  • The candidate will work collaboratively with staff at recreational venues and provide support to participants and staff as needed.
  • The candidate will create a safe, supportive, and positive environment for the participants in the SportsNet and Recreation programs.
  • Adheres to the agency’s policies and procedures as well as department guidelines.
  • Performs other duties at the discretion of the Program Director or his/her designee.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience implementing recreational activities for individuals of all ages and abilities
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Experience working with individuals who have a physical, learning, cognitive or social challenges.
  • Experience providing aquatic instruction
  • Current Lifeguard certification preferred or must be successfully completed during orientation
  • Valid and clean NYS Driver’s license and have a reliable means of transportation
  • Ability to meet all agency training requirements, including CPR and First Aid certifications.
