Families, Caregivers, and Friends of Residents in Our Certified IRAs:
We were very pleased to hear Governor Cuomo’s announcement, during his daily press briefing yesterday, that group homes certified by OPWDD may resume visitation at their discretion, beginning Friday, June 19th.
During his briefing, Governor Cuomo said that visitors will be required to wear masks and will be subject to symptom and temperature checks and indicated that providers must notify the State once they reopen visitation and follow state guidelines, but the specific details of those guidelines remain unclear. OPWDD’s Commissioner has indicated that these guidelines will be released later this week.
We realize these restrictions on visitations put immense emotional strain on residents and loved ones who have been separated for months. The advocacy of families, our statewide provider affiliation (CP State), fellow providers, and our partners in the I/DD community was instrumental in reopening visitation in our residential programs.
We await further guidance regarding the requirements related to resuming visits, but it is our intention to be ready to welcome visitors on Friday, June 19th. We thank families for their patience and understanding throughout this challenging global health crisis, and our staff for continuing to find innovative ways to sustain connections with families and friends throughout the visitor restrictions.
